The Little Mermaid is an original story written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. He published it in his 1837 book, Fairy Tales, Told For Children. The story has since become one of Andersen's most enduring and beloved works, inspiring numerous adaptations. But beware, this is not the version you may know from the Disney movies!
