Versions of Rumpelstiltskin have roots in many European cultures, going back thousands of years. The Brothers Grimm pulled together various versions to create this well-known tale. They added structure to the narrative, as well as the iconic name Rumpelstiltskin, and published it in their 1812 book, Children's and Household Tales.
