Cinderella (part 2 of 2)
Le prince dansa avec Cendrillon et tout le monde fut impressionné par sa grâce. Il y eut un grand festin, mais le prince était trop enchanté par Cendrillon au point de ne pas pouvoir manger.
The prince danced with Cinderella, and everyone was impressed by her grace. There was a grand feast, but the prince was too enchanted by Cinderella to eat.
Cendrillon s'assit près de ses sœurs, qui ne la reconnurent pas. Elle fut très gentille avec elles et partagea même quelques fruits que le prince lui avait donnés.
Cinderella sat near her sisters, and they did not recognize her. She was very kind to them, and even shared some fruits the prince had given her.
Soudain, Cendrillon entendit l'horloge et réalisa qu'il était presque minuit. Elle prit rapidement congé et se dépêcha de rentrer chez elle.
Suddenly, Cinderella heard the clock and realized it was almost midnight. She quickly said goodbye and hurried home.
De retour chez elle, elle remercia sa marraine et lui demanda si elle pouvait aller à la deuxième soirée du bal. Alors qu'elle parlait avec enthousiasme du bal à sa marraine, ses sœurs sont arrivées.
Back home, she thanked her godmother and asked if she could go to the second night of the ball. As she was excitedly telling her godmother about the ball, her sisters arrived.
Cendrillon ouvrit la porte, faisant semblant d'être endormie. "Vous êtes restées tard !" dit-elle en baillant.
Cinderella opened the door, pretending to be sleepy. "You stayed out late!" she said, yawning.
Une sœur répondit : "Tu as raté beaucoup de choses ! Il y avait une belle princesse, la plus belle que l'on ait jamais vue. Elle était très polie avec nous et partageait des fruits exotiques avec nous."
One sister replied, "You missed so much! There was a beautiful princess, the loveliest ever seen. She was very polite to us and shared exotic fruits with us."
Cendrillon demanda à ses sœurs le nom de la mystérieuse princesse. Elles ne le savaient pas et dirent que même le prince ne le savait pas. Elle dit que le prince ferait n'importe quoi pour la retrouver.
Cinderella asked her sisters the name of the mysterious princess. They didn't know, and said not even the prince knew. She said the prince would do anything to find her.
Cendrillon sourit et dit : "Elle doit être très belle, alors. Puis-je la voir ? Oh, Charlotte, pourrais-je emprunter ta robe jaune pour le bal de demain ?"
Cinderella smiled and said, "She must be very beautiful, then. Could I see her? Oh, Charlotte, could I borrow your yellow dress for the ball tomorrow?"
"Bien sûr que non !" Charlotte craqua. "Je ne prêterai pas ma robe à une sale Cendre-gueuse !"
"Of course not!" Charlotte snapped. "I won't lend my dress to a dirty Cinderwench!"
Cendrillon s'attendait à cette réponse. Elle était secrètement heureuse car elle espérait porter quelque chose d'encore plus beau que la robe jaune de Charlotte.
Cinderella had expected this answer. She was secretly happy because she hoped to wear something even more lovely than Charlotte’s yellow dress.
Au bal de la deuxième nuit, Cendrillon portait une robe encore plus belle que celle de la première nuit. Le prince resta près d'elle toute la soirée. Cinderella était si heureuse qu'elle perdit la notion du temps. Elle pensait qu'il n'était que onze heures lorsqu'elle entendit l'horloge sonner douze heures. Elle sursauta et partit en courant, aussi vite qu'un cerf. Le prince essaya de la suivre, mais il n'y arriva pas.
At the ball the second night, Cinderella wore a gown even more beautiful than the first night. The prince stayed close to her all evening. Cinderella was so happy that she lost track of time. She thought it was only eleven o'clock when she heard the clock strike twelve. She gasped and ran off, as fast as a deer. The prince tried to follow her but couldn't keep up.
Dans sa hâte, Cinderella a laissé derrière elle une de ses pantoufles de verre. Le prince la ramassa soigneusement. Arrivée à la maison essoufflée, Cendrillon retrouva ses vieux vêtements. Toutes ses belles choses avaient disparu, à l'exception de l'autre pantoufle de verre. Elle la cacha pour chérir les souvenirs de ses deux nuits de bonheur.
In her hurry, Cinderella left behind one of her glass slippers. The prince picked it up carefully. Cinderella got home out of breath, back in her old clothes. All her fine things had disappeared, except for the other glass slipper. She hid it away to cherish the memories from her two nights of happiness.

When the prince asked which way the princess had run, the palace guards said they saw no one pass by except for a poor servant girl.

Elles lui dirent que la mystérieuse princesse était encore là, mais qu'elle était partie précipitamment à minuit, laissant tomber une pantoufle de verre. When her sisters came back from the ball, Cinderella asked them about the evening. They told her the mysterious princess had been there again but had left in a hurry at midnight, dropping a glass slipper. They said the prince picked it up and seemed very in love with her.
Leur histoire était vraie. Quelques jours plus tard, le prince annonça qu'il épouserait la dame qui pourrait porter la pantoufle. On l'essaya sur de nombreuses femmes, mais elle n'allait à aucune d'entre elles.
Their story was true. A few days later, the prince announced he would marry the lady who could wear the slipper. They tried it on many women, but it fit none of them.
La pantoufle a été apportée aux sœurs de Cendrillon. Elles essayèrent de faire entrer leurs pieds dans la pantoufle, mais n'y parvinrent pas. Cendrillon regardait tout ce qui se passait. Lorsqu'elles eurent terminé, Cendrillon se mit à rire et demanda si elle pouvait essayer la pantoufle, comme s'il s'agissait d'une plaisanterie amusante.
The slipper was brought to Cinderella's sisters. They tried hard to fit their feet into it, but couldn't. Cinderella watched everything. When they were done, Cinderella laughed and asked if she could try the slipper, as if it were a funny joke.
Ses sœurs riaient et se moquaient d'elle. Mais le monsieur à la pantoufle regarda attentivement Cendrillon et la trouva très belle. Il lui dit qu'elle devait aussi essayer la pantoufle, car il avait reçu l'ordre de laisser une chance à tout le monde.
Her sisters laughed and mocked her. But the gentleman with the slipper looked earnestly at Cinderella and thought she was very beautiful. He said she should also try the slipper, as he was ordered to let everyone have a chance.
L'homme demanda à Cendrillon de s'asseoir devant lui. Il souleva doucement la pantoufle pour la mettre à son pied. Elle lui allait parfaitement, comme si elle avait été faite pour elle. Ses sœurs furent choquées. Elles furent encore plus surprises lorsque Cendrillon sortit l'autre pantoufle de verre de sa poche et la mit sur son autre pied.
The man asked Cinderella to sit before him. He gently lifted the slipper to her foot. It fit her perfectly, as if it were made just for her. Her sisters were shocked. They were even more surprised when Cinderella took the other glass slipper out of her pocket and put it on her other foot.
C'est alors que la marraine fée de Cendrillon apparut. D'un coup de baguette, elle transforma les vêtements de Cendrillon en une tenue encore plus élégante que les deux premières robes de bal.
Then, Cinderella's fairy godmother appeared. With a touch of her wand, she transformed Cinderella's clothes into an outfit even more elegant than the first two ball gowns.
Maintenant, ses sœurs se rendirent compte qu'elle était la belle dame du bal. Elles tombèrent à ses pieds, lui demandant pardon pour les mauvais traitements qu'elles lui avaient infligés. Cendrillon les aida à se relever, les serra dans ses bras et leur pardonna.
Now, her sisters realized that she was the beautiful lady from the ball. They fell at her feet, asking for forgiveness for how badly they had treated her. Cinderella helped them up, hugged them, and forgave them.
Peu après, Cendrillon et le prince se marièrent. Cendrillon, qui était aussi gentille que belle, invita ses sœurs à vivre au palais. Elle s'arrangea même pour qu'elles épousent deux messieurs importants de la cour.
Shortly after, Cinderella and the prince got married. Cinderella, who was as kind as she was beautiful, invited her sisters to live in the palace. She even arranged for them to marry two important gentlemen from the court.
